The scars of narcissistic abuse remain etched in a person’s body and soul as trauma. At the time of the abuse, the victim of narcissism was unable to comprehend it due to their weakened mental faculties and willpower.
Now the source of the abuse is gone. This energy, built on shame and fear, finally finds an opportunity to surface. It wants your higher self (your consciousness, your divine self) to recognize it, legitimize it, and allow it to express itself. This means being present with it, letting it roam and express itself in your presence. The word “self” here is in capital letters because it doesn’t represent your mind or ego, but rather the “you” that transcends your mind.
Embracing your trauma means experiencing a breadth and depth you’ve never known before. As you revisit painful memories, seek out the intensity of these feelings and sensations within your body. Be alert, but relax your body. Be the intensity. Surrender to the pain you are experiencing in this moment. Look directly at this wave from the past. Immerse yourself in it. Do so by directing your full attention to it, gently ignoring your conflicting thoughts and instincts.

If you can take this bold step, your awareness will grow, and your capacity to cope with intensity will increase. This is how transformation happens. Before you can simply “be present,” you must be present with what is holding you back. Transformation is a process in which a being takes on a form it did not previously possess. You are capable of this, and you do it through faith, courage, and conscious presence in the face of horror.
Like in the levels of a video game, view your trauma from narcissistic abuse as “levels” to be overcome. It is frustrating, uncomfortable, and even deeply painful at times, but once you find your way through it by surrendering and focusing, you can experience the joy of your spiritual growth and then prepare yourself for the next level. Narcissistic abuse may hold you back, or it may be the driving force behind your self-actualization. It is all about awareness and being ready to embark on your own heroic journey.
