For many of you, I know your experiences with narcissism and narcissistic abuse have affected you.

I don’t want to minimize it, but I want to explain why it keeps happening.

Why do narcissists keep coming to me? What makes me different?

And most importantly…

How do I stop attracting them?

There are many ways to succeed.

Eliminate The Attraction For A Better Life

I’ll start by saying that I know you don’t mean to be a magnet for narcissistic behavior and other people’s attention, yet you remain one all the time, open to their ability to reach you.

They coerce you. They intimidate you. They manipulate you. They control you.

But to live a better life, you must deactivate that magnet within you.

Trust me when I say it’s not always as easy as it sounds, but once you do, you’ll finally be free.

Trust Is Key

Step One—and It’s a Big One!

Trust.

Where Has Your Trust Gone?

Over time, many narcissists have taken your trust, leaving you with nothing. So what do you do? The key here is to understand that your character is being stolen, and to recognize that the pattern lies in your ability to attract them in the first place.

It’s like buying yourself a box of chocolates and letting others take one away, leaving you with nothing.

These chocolates are for you, and no one else.

The same goes for your self-confidence.

If you can set boundaries around your self-confidence, and don’t let other people’s voices, opinions, or actions dictate your self-confidence, you’re on the right track.

Unbreakable Personality

Nothing and no one can get you down for long. You may have bad days or tough times, but you bounce back, doing so with strength and a promise that you’ll pick yourself up and start over.

Strong people aren’t always aggressive by nature. They can simply be confident in their abilities, knowing that they can’t be influenced or persuaded into an environment they don’t want to be in.

They aren’t afraid of rejection, and they aren’t afraid of approval.

If your personality is solid, you’ll find it difficult to attract any narcissist, whose sole goal is to break you down and empty you out.

Don’t Be Fooled

Oh, they can try. And they can keep trying.

Temptation is temptation.

What if I tried this person?

Maybe I’ll be the one to change them.

Maybe there’s something different about me they’ll love.

What harm would that do?

I’ll give it a month.

They’re trying so hard to be with me.

It seems only fair that I let them show me what they’ve got.

Don’t.

What they have is a pocketful of ammunition that they’ll spend their lives pointing at you if you let them.

You may feel like a magnet drawing you toward them, I get that. They’re mysterious, exciting, new, and even passionate.

They may use their physical attraction to lure you into spending the night with them.

They’ll make that night the best sex you’ve ever had. They’ll hit the right spots, leaving you breathless.

It’s not a road you want to take, no matter how pretty it looks.

In the end, the narcissist has used cheap paint to deceive you.

Magic? No, thanks.

Wow, look at you. You look amazing.

Of course, I’d be proud to have you in my arms.

There’s no one better to share this moment with.

Have I told you how much you make my heart beat?

You’re something else, unlike anyone I’ve ever known.

Play that old song, narcissist. Let’s all listen to it. Bullshit, bullshit, bullshit.

It’s all words, and it’s meaningless if it’s covered in lies and deception.

Own Your Life: Own Your Goals

Never let narcissists steal your goals.

Stand firm and follow your dreams. If they’re told they’re silly, that means they’re great, and the narcissist doesn’t have the nerve to do the same for themselves.

If you forget your worth, you forget how to live with purpose.

Remember Your Worth

Speaking of worth!

Let’s go.

Your worth is how much you value yourself in your heart. Is it a lot? Maybe a little. Maybe a lot!

Remembering your intelligence, wit, kindness, and concern for others will make your life much easier than those created from their soul.

If you maintain your high worth, narcissists will avoid you.

Value_Love_Not_Attachment

Love may come and go, and it hurts when it happens. But when you love, it’s the most beautiful feeling in the world.

Love is forgiveness and respect. It’s not trying to prove yourself to someone, or to prove your worth. Love doesn’t chase love; it is love.

If you find yourself chasing love, you’re attached to someone who doesn’t see value in your love and will therefore never reciprocate.

Be lovable, and the narcissist will never get over it.

Reflect On Your Past

I know it’s hard to reflect on the past, but your past is truly important.

I know that many victims of narcissistic abuse came from home lives where they felt undervalued or neglected in some way.

Love was earned, and even then, it was fleeting.

You craved all the attention you could get, and you held on to the feeling it gave you. Now—as an adult—you’re looking for the same thing.

Familiarity isn’t always healthy, but it’s often the safest option for those who don’t know better.

If you can reflect on your past and what made your standards so low that they always attracted narcissists, you can work on eliminating them.
