7 Times When Narcissists Accidentally Speak The Truth

Oh my God, that slipped out of my mouth, didn’t it? Don’t you just love it when narcissists accidentally blurt out the truth before you have a chance to stop it?

You wish everyone could hear it. You want it to reach the walls of the back room, so you don’t go crazy.

But when is that beautiful moment likely to happen?

Well, I can give you seven examples right now to get you started!

Wait…The Truth?

I know. And believe me, I laughed too when I thought of narcissists telling the truth. Imagine them being honest and telling us all how much they hate themselves, or how real their fear is deep down.

What a wonderful day!

Actually—that doesn’t happen—and those aren’t the facts I’m referring to.

Instead, I think of narcissistic slip-ups. When their true colors come to the forefront of their day, and how they devalue you with just a few sentences.

This is a truly inspiring moment for those of you who have long suspected that narcissists are toxic people.

So, while the truth may not be as stark as you’d like, you can still rest assured that the narcissist is being completely honest when they use these phrases.

1 “I don’t care what you think.”

Ugh.

Well, you know what? At least they’re honest, right?

Narcissists are brutal when they want to be—and this is one of those moments.

They really don’t care what you think, and sometimes their words just slip out. In fact, they’ll probably try to cover this up later by saying something like:

You surprised me in a busy moment.

I exploded because I was tired.

I didn’t mean it—you’re just pressing me for answers, and I can’t stand it.

Okay. Okay. So, it’s your fault now, isn’t it?

It’s not.

They don’t really care about your opinion, and they’re taking a moment to tell you so.

When someone shows you their true colors, believe them.

2 “I always get what I want.”

Well, thank you for your honesty.

Of course, narcissists always get what they want. They fight every day for justice only if it makes them sing while everyone else feels absolutely miserable.

There’s a real obsession with the kind of life narcissists want to live, and if things don’t go their way, they’ll definitely make others pay for it.

This is what happens when they unintentionally tell the truth like this.

Translated, they’re simply telling you that you’re the one constantly giving them what they want, sacrificing what you want without any compromise.

You should listen carefully when they try to blurt this out to you. It’s as toxic as they say it.

And you know what? Maybe it’s time to stop giving them everything they want—but that’s another topic!

3 “I hate drama, but…”

The key is in the “but,” right?

You hate drama, but you’re going to lead me down this path anyway because you simply can’t stop yourself!

They should stop with “I hate drama.” Life would be so much easier for both the narcissist and you…

…but we all know how much narcissists hate a “boring” life—so that’s drama.

Remember—you don’t have to participate in the show they’re trying to sell you. Whether or not you’re drawn into their drama is up to you.

The only advice I can give you is to listen to that, but—it’s a sure sign they’re trying to tell you one thing, then do something completely different.

4 “No one understands me.”

Wait, so you’re telling me that out of all the people in the world—and there are billions—not one understands you, you narcissist?

You piece of garbage!

I feel like this is the kind of phrase that makes me want to pull out my violin and play it while I’m dancing with the narcissist. Except I don’t have a violin, and even if I did, I’d sound terrible.

I know what you’re thinking…

Wait, this is about the narcissist being right, not wrong.

You’re right.

No one in the narcissist’s circle understands them because they deliberately block other narcissists from entering. So, technically, they’re right.

But the psychologist in me wants to expand this circle for fun, proving that when other narcissists enter, they’ll understand this phrase, automatically rejecting the idea that no one understands them.

As far as you’re concerned, they’re right.

What is there to understand about someone so emotionally disturbed and toxic? What’s the point? Where’s the motivation?

It’s so confusing.

5 “I only surround myself with successful people.”

God, how noble of you. How beautiful it is to see success as a core magnetic quality in another person.

With, I don’t know…

Kindness

Compassion

Empathy

Loyalty

Support

You know, it amazes me that this is what we’re dealing with here. And I see it all the time.

Narcissists only deal with successful people because they see themselves there.

As if they’re members of a community, no matter how rude, hateful, arrogant, or ignorant they may seem, it’s fine as long as they’re successful.

But it’s not really that, is it?

Yet, narcissists are telling the truth here. And they’ll do it because they want to be known as their own successors.

The only thing narcissists succeed at is being toxic.

6 “I made you.”

Well, say it like it is. Narcissists mean that one way, but we know the shoe still fits even if it’s made another way.

What they’re thinking is how they made you who you are. They did everything for you, and they put this version of you at the center of the table.

Look at you! That was all me!

Well, they’re right. It was them.

The insecure, scared, anxious ball of depression you’ve become. The hollowed-out, empty shell you are now—yes—that’s it, narcissism.

They made you who you are through all those times they gnawed at your soul.

The way they sucked the life and joy out of you. The abuse you endured for no reason other than trying to be yourself.

They made you who you are—but you can change that.

7 “People turn on me all the time.”

That’s absolutely true, and well done for your clear awareness of your actions.

People always turn on narcissists in the end. They see through the lies and control in the end, and that’s a fact.

That’s why you often see narcissists changing social circles or even cities throughout their lives, trying to make a fresh start after someone else has abandoned them.

It’s a major fear narcissists have, but it’s inevitable as long as they continue to abuse those they claim to love or care about.

And this is definitely one case—again—where they’re telling the truth!
