What Do Dreams about Murder Reveal about You and Your Life?

What do dreams about murder mean? Have you ever woken up in the middle of the night in a panic because you dreamt you just killed someone?

Fortunately, these types of dreams are not common, but they do carry meaning.

Dream analysis is often used in psychoanalysis as a tool to understand our unconscious thoughts. In fact, it was first pioneered by Sigmund Freud, who believed that dreams were the “royal road” to the unconscious mind.

It is believed that our dreams can be a way for our unconscious thoughts to come to the surface. But obviously, not all of us are murderers, so what might it mean if we dream about murder?

Dreams about murder, being murdered, or witnessing a murder often send a powerful message to our consciousness.

Usually this is:

Something in your life is ending or needs to end
A major change is happening in your life
You feel hostility towards someone else
You feel guilty about something.

Dreams about murder can also indicate the release of built-up anger or rage towards a specific person in your life. You may unconsciously feel the desire to “end” the relationship but don’t know how to do it.

If you know the person who was killed in your dream but feel indifferent towards them in real life, it may represent something in your life that you don’t like and want to get rid of.

If you are being killed, you may feel betrayed by someone important to you.

If you witness someone else committing the murder, you may be suppressing your feelings and anger and denying a personality trait in yourself that you don’t want to see.

It all depends on the actual dream and who was killed.

If you are being killed

This may mean that something in you needs to end or die. It could be a way of thinking, acting, or believing. In order for you to move on with your life and become a good person, that aspect needs to go away.

If in your dream you are struggling against your attacker, it means that you are not quite ready to let go of what you need right now.

If someone you know is killed

This could mean that you have problems with the person who was killed and that you are either jealous of them or hate them intensely. The person who was killed could also represent an aspect of your personality that you do not like.

To further understand why this person was killed in your dream, you need to think about what they represent to you in real life. What does they represent in real life and why do you want to get rid of them?

As for analyzing certain aspects of dreams about murder, theorists believe that if you see a murder happening, you are emotionally cutting yourself off from an important person in your life.

If you are being chased by the murderer, you are trying to escape some aspect of your emotional life. If you are the murderer, you may feel depressed in life and angry with yourself.

Most psychoanalysts believe that dreams about murder indicate that a person is moving away from some old or outdated practices or habits and trying something new. Just as the Death card in the Tarot does not mean death, it symbolizes an end and a new beginning, so does the dream of murder.

Can dreams about murder mimic waking life?

However, there was an interesting study into people who have recurring dreams about murder. Experts in dream analysis found that those who dream about committing murder are more likely to be hostile and aggressive in real life.

A new study has found that those who dream about committing murder tend to be more hostile and aggressive when they are awake. When these dreamers are awake, they are also introverted and have difficulty connecting with others.

The German study reported that dreams were often an amplification of thoughts and feelings in real life. During waking hours, people may find that they suppress feelings of hostility and aggression, but when they dream, these feelings are amplified in murder scenarios.

Lead researcher Professor Michael Schredl, from the Sleep Laboratory of the Central Institute for Mental Health in Mannheim, Germany, said:

“Emotions in dreams can be much stronger than emotions in waking life. If you dream about murder, look at your aggressive feelings in waking life.”

So perhaps the next time you dream about murder you should ask yourself what is happening in your waking life and should you be worried?
