Marital infidelity is a big problem. There are conflicting opinions about relationship dynamics, but in my opinion, infidelity is not healthy. So who is most vulnerable to infidelity?
There are different forms of romantic relationships, and that’s totally fine. Consensual intimate unions come in all different “shapes and sizes” alike.
However, breaking the bond of trust is not part of this understanding. There are those who agree not to leave the union, and there are those who agree to do so. However, this is not what cheating means.
Professions with high rates of infidelity
Now that I’ve explained that, we can look at the most prevalent rates of infidelity across different professions. One study claims that some professions have higher rates of cheating. Infidelity appears to be more common in one field of work than in another.
Here is a little information that may interest you. Keep in mind that surveys are questionnaires, and the people answering these questions have personal experience in the field.
- Medical field – women
Three different sources reported that the medical field was the most common workplace among cheating women. This may be due to high stress levels and long working hours. In one source, it is said that 20% of women in the medical field commit adultery, with only 8% of male cheaters falling into this professional category.
However, in another source, men appear to be more likely to cheat in the medical field. Now, before you judge, think about a few things.
This does not mean that every doctor, nurse or practitioner is a cheater.
- Business
When it comes to commercial work, this can mean any type of work from electricians to plumbers. There are many organized deals where manufacturing facilities are also included. The reason infidelity is so common in this profession is that the working hours and overtime allow for “under the radar” cheating.
Nearly 30% of men cheat in this professional field, while only 4% of women do.
Not all extra work equals a cheating spouse either.
- Teachers
Most unfaithful teachers are women. When it comes to infidelity, 12% of all female teachers are unfaithful. Men are less likely to cheat because they face less pressure in the classroom, and therefore less stress.
Sometimes, students view female teachers as weak and thus experience high levels of stress. Stress is often seen as an excuse to cheat.
There are many great teachers who do not cheat on their spouses.
- Information technology
Likewise, men are more likely to cheat in the IT career sector. Again, 12% of IT workers are male. Cheaters have been found. And right after that, 8% of women in IT are also cheaters.
Most people assume that people in this professional field are shy, but perhaps not to the point that infidelity is off the table.
- Entrepreneurs
Being able to set your own hours also gives you the ability to keep those actual hours to yourself. This makes infidelity in a relationship fairly easy as a business owner.
In fact, both men and women, at 11%, are guilty of being out of touch when it comes to the freedom of being entrepreneurs.
A greater percentage of entrepreneurs do not cheat.
- Financing
Women are more likely to be cheated in the financial industry. In fact, 9% of female bankers, analysts and brokers tend to have extramarital affairs.
This may be due to the power of handling money and assets, where women are seen as more powerful. This is something that attracts some men, and a small percentage of women cannot resist this temptation.
Handling finances and even feeling powerful does not mean cheating. Infidelity comes from the mindset and how people deal with power and control of money.
- Hospitality and retail
Men and women have about the same percentage of being cheaters in this career field. When it comes to men, 8% of women are unfaithful and 9% of women are involved in infidelity.
Service workers deal with a lot of people and work long hours. This career field also has the highest divorce rate as well. This is likely due to the fact that infidelity is always a possibility as long as you continue to work around the public and inside hotels, where private rooms are readily available.
Given the low percentages in this career field, there are still many people who separate their personal and professional lives.
- Entertainment industry
This may seem surprising, but it turns out that only 4% of female celebrities and 3% of male celebrities in the entertainment industry have been cheaters. While news reports, social media and magazines talk about all the infidelities of actors, singers and comedians, most of them are just rumours.
Although there are many breakups and divorces in the entertainment industry, there seems to be less cheating than in other professions.
It’s interesting to note the difference between what we think we know about Hollywood and what we really know. Fame doesn’t always mean infidelity.
- The legal profession
Lawyers and others in the legal profession often work closely with clients and therefore risk fraud in certain circumstances. In this category, both male and female legal professionals have similar rates of fraud. In this profession, 4% of men and women commit adultery.
Many lawyers, judges and secretaries in this field are dedicated. In fact, most of them are.
Judge for yourself, but with solid evidence
According to Ashley Madison, there are several other professional fields where cheaters are common, including real estate, agriculture, and insurance. However, the only sure way to catch a cheater is to pay attention to the signs.
It is also noted that people are more likely to cheat when they reach the age of 29, 39, and especially 49, as they try to prove to others that they are still attractive.
