Everyday Activities & Behaviors That Reveal Your Personality Traits, According to Studies

Psychology is a bit like detective work. One way psychologists can discover our personality is by exploring our daily activities and behaviors.

In other words, the things we enjoy can reveal our personality. For example, someone who likes to read is more likely to be lonely than someone who likes clubbing. Many of these everyday activities and behaviors make sense.

However, new studies reveal some interesting insights, ones that simply cannot be guessed at. Before we get into the nitty gritty of simple behaviors, we should learn about the five main personality types.

The Big Five Personality Traits
Psychologists classify personality traits into five groups:

Openness to experience
living conscience
extroversion
consent
Neuroticism
Each category tells us what kind of life this person is likely to lead, for example:

Those who are open to experience are likely to travel a lot. The most agreeable people tend to have a lot of friends. People with neuroticism often experience mental health problems. Extroverts are more likely to tattoo and conscientious people are less likely to be late.

Of course, these are generalizations and there are other subcategories within each of the Big Five. But we humans love to put people together, so it serves as a useful tool if we want to get to know personalities.

Now, this new study has revealed the Big Five personality traits in more detail. It includes some pretty surprising everyday activities that you might not associate with certain traits.

Here are the daily activities and personality type associated with it:

  1. Openness to experience
According to research, highly extroverted people eat spicy breakfasts and spend at least an hour daydreaming. They swear a lot around others, tend to buy organic food, and create art in some form. They are also more likely to sit around the house naked, fix their own cars, and not follow a sports team closely.

Open-minded people like to read poetry and have attended art exhibitions and operas. They will speak a second language, smoke marijuana, and play an instrument. You will also find them composting garden scraps and will admit to having fired a gun.

  1. Conscience
There are some very typical daily activities associated with the mindful group, things you would expect like returning library books on time, not letting work pile up, and not sleeping in the afternoon.

However, there is an interesting way you can get to know a conscientious person, and that is how they take a selfie. Conscientious people are more likely to include some private space in the background of their selfies. They are also more likely to wear a watch than any other group.

You should also watch how the person eats their food. A person who eats one type of food in its entirety is detail-oriented and conscientious.

One final trick is to see if a person has any unread or deleted emails. Those who don’t bother to read every email realize that their time is better spent on tasks that are more useful and are more likely to be mindful.

  1. Extraversion
Certainly, extroverts are one of the easiest groups to spot. Some of their most obvious traits include telling dirty jokes, talking on the phone while driving, and speeding. They are also more likely to ask questions in meetings and cheer loudly at sporting events.

However, they also have some daily activities that you wouldn’t normally expect. For example, they like to relax in the hot tub and get a tan. They are the most likely of all groups to volunteer at a club or charity. Their fridge is likely to overflow with food.

  1. Acceptance
Members of this group will tend to have a sweet tooth and love to eat sweet things. Good people are usually called “sweet”. Anything that is enjoyed can be described as sweet. In contrast, bitter tastes are associated with sociopathic traits.

Those with agreeable character do laundry and ironing daily. People who engage in these daily activities, including other types of chores and chores, tend to have high agreeableness scores.

Psychologists think this is because nice people are more motivated to keep others happy. They want to create a comfortable and caring environment. People in this group are also more likely to sing in the shower or the car.

  1. Neuroticism
As might be expected, neurotic people will suffer from mental health problems such as depression or personality disorders. Not surprisingly, they exhibit more than average antisocial behaviors. Neurotic people will lose their temper more often and make fun of others more. This may be because they have difficulty controlling their emotions.

What you may not know about neurotic people is that they will drink an average of 4-5 cans of soda per day. They are also most likely to try dieting as a way to lose weight.

If you want an easy way to identify a neurotic, watch how they take a selfie. If they make a typical duck face (lips frown), that’s a telltale sign.

Do you agree with the daily activities and what groups are they assigned to? If that’s the case, why not congratulate someone for their openness the next time you swear at them? Or if you have doubts about a friend’s mental health, check out their selfies. And don’t be hard on a child who eats his food one batch at a time. They are simply conscientious.
