Paranoia: An Ally Turned Tormentor

A woman sits on her front porch, gazing critically at the sky. Her hand clenches tightly as chemical warfare sprays randomly across its clear blue surface, poisoning her from above and exacerbating her health problems.

A teenager spots a group of boys on the street corner ahead. As a precaution, he chooses to cross the road rather than walk past them. The boys continue joking and laughing amongst themselves, completely oblivious to the teenager’s presence.

A woman dancing in a nightclub approaches a handsome man with a sharp gaze. For a moment, curiosity stirs within her. Finally, she gives in to her instincts and ignores him. A flicker of anger flashes in his eyes before he composes himself and moves on to another woman.

Paranoia can be your best friend and your worst enemy. It lurks deep within you, whispering ominous warnings, luring you away from danger.

Paranoia is the ultimate fortune teller. She seems to know when disaster will strike, and under what circumstances. She stands firmly by your side when you’re worried, and at other times she’s gentler and more subtle in her guidance. “Not there,” she whispers. “It’s not safe. No, it’s not them. They’ll take advantage of you.”

When a stranger approaches, paranoia ignites your senses, and adrenaline surges through you. If you’re a woman walking alone in a dark park, she truly is your friend.

The smiling stranger may be more dangerous than the wolf with bared fangs, and he knows it. The scowling wolf may simply be in pain, and he knows it too.

Where danger is at its peak, reality turns crimson. And your tormentor will soon convince you that he is your friend. Together, you will overcome the wolves, subdue the ferocious, and ward off greed. This will never happen again, your tormenting friend tells you. You nod in agreement.

Behind your tormentor’s mask, the devil smiles mockingly. You’ve made your deal with him; in the contract, you’ve surrendered your life.
