We all have toxic relationships in our lives that we long to fix. Whether it’s your family, friends, co-worker or anyone close to you, we constantly drive ourselves crazy because of their behavior.
And that day ends. It’s time to stand up for yourself and stop tolerating this behavior. Here’s how.
- Tell them calmly that this is unacceptable.
When someone is toxic, you can’t go along with their toxicity and expect things to get better. Instead, take a deep breath and tell them in a calm, positive way that their behavior is unacceptable to you. This way, you put it in their head without any negativity.
- Do not assume responsibility.
Don’t become an apologist for the toxic people in your life. Others will notice, including your friends and family. If they bring it up, don’t try to turn their behavior into something acceptable. Acknowledge the problem and forget about it.
- Be optimistic and positive towards them.
If you have toxic and negative people in your space, counter their toxicity with positive behavior. This way, you can show them that the world is full of love and people who care about them, but you will not allow them to have bad behavior.
- Clear your mind.
Toxic people can really drain you. Spending even a small amount of time with them really wipes you out. Make sure you take some time to recharge. Enjoy long walks or meditate. Clear your mind. Let the negative energy he threw at you wash away from you.
- Help them or move on.
And that’s pretty much where it should all end. If you have toxic people in your life, you either help them or let them go. It’s not an easy choice, but it’s a choice you have to make.
