The scary thing about narcissists lies in all the little things they do.
They may be some of the most charismatic and charming people on the planet, and I know that calling them scary isn’t exactly what you’d call it.
But underneath that facade, they do some pretty scary things—to you and everyone else.
So let’s get to know them head-on, and how you can spot these 16 things.
Don’t walk—run.
Things Can Go Wrong Fast
You’d better be prepared for when things can take a turn for the worst in your life with a narcissist.
The fear starts here.
1 Laughter
Obsessive! We all agree. He’s an attention-seeker, almost hyperactive, and stops everyone in their tracks.

But make no mistake—he’s cloaked in narcissism.
Look at me! Ha ha ha!
2 Imitation
Mimicking every little thing you do just to feel connected to them is a scary way to manipulate you.
It also quickly builds a bond between you, making you less likely to leave them.
Imitation is exactly how narcissists convince you that you’re too alike.
You’re not.
3 How They Put People Down
If it’s in a narcissist’s best interest to put someone down, badmouth them, or discredit them, that’s exactly what they’ll do.
The scary thing is, it could be a family member, a friend, or even you.
Narcissists are loyal only to themselves.
4 They Sleep Well
Meanwhile, you—the sufferer—toss and toss and turn all night, worrying, wondering, and anticipating.

Don’t expect any narcissist to have a conscience at all, let alone one big enough to keep them awake every night.
5 They Feign Illness
The world needs to stop! The narcissist is sick!
They may feign illness, but as long as you obey and give them that attention, they’re happy.
What healthy person feigns illness?!
6 They Don’t Care About Your Illness
You’re feigning illness or wasting everyone’s time.
No sympathy, no help, no support, and no understanding either.
7 Stalking
Many victims of abuse find themselves being stalked at one point or another, and it can be scary.
When you come home alone, someone follows you.
They appear everywhere.
Those familiar headlights follow you home from work in the dark.
It’s scary, but narcissists push their boundaries whenever they can.
This is one of those moments.
8 Harassment
Harassment can come in many forms.
Constantly calling you.
Texting.
Visiting you at your home. Picking you up from work.

Sending you mail.
Regularly demanding your time.
Leaving you feeling like you can’t breathe.
Narcissists adore other people’s failure. It doesn’t seem right, does it? The people you love are supposed to be the ones you sacrifice for.
If they’re hurting, you’re hurting. You support them and do your best to be there for them…
…they’re not narcissists.
They’re designed in a completely different way, and they’ll crush you every chance they get.
Going through it with them is like watching their favorite movie. You’re their favorite movie if you’re not happy.
There are laws against harassment, and steps you can take to ensure your safety. That’s the mistake that makes.
Why do narcissists think they can get away with it?
Because they feel they owe it to the world, and more.
9 Not Hearing the Word “No”
“No” is a phrase. We all know that.
If you’re not happy, comfortable, or satisfied with something, you have the right to say “no.” Even if you agree, you have the right to change your mind.
Narcissists hate the word “no” because it’s a direct threat. They want to get what they want, and they don’t want you to hold them back.
And if they don’t hear your refusal, it can get very scary very quickly.
10 People Take Advantage of Each Other
In what world do you think it’s acceptable to intentionally cause conflict between two people you love or know?

Do you think it’s acceptable to stir up controversy, to make comments or news clips that you know will upset someone?
Absolutely not. That’s why you’re here. That’s why you recognize the need to recover from people who think it’s acceptable.
When narcissists take advantage of each other, they’re showing you how scary they can be, and how an unhealthy and unnatural act can bring them so much pleasure.
11 They Don’t Love
Isn’t it unnatural to look at someone who is incapable of love?
How hard can it be to do something we’re all created to do? From pets to humans, from relatives to friends—we all love.
12 Intimidation
Intimidation can be emotional, financial, physical, or psychological—but at its core, it’s intimidation.
If you emerge from a situation where a narcissist says or does something feeling scared, stressed, or anxious, the narcissist has won.
Many people stay in relationships where intimidation is a daily occurrence, but you need to recognize that it’s not normal, and that it’s a powerful and subtle form of abuse.
13 Anger
No one knows when it will come, or how long it will last.
You’re used to the narcissist’s anger, but its unpredictability scares you. Why put up with it?

Yes, it’s intense, isn’t it?
It may be directed specifically at you for good reasons (according to them).
But you need to be careful every day, right? You resort to maneuvering and evading your way out of a potential conflict just to get away from it, and I don’t blame you.
But you shouldn’t maneuver and evade your way out of anything.
14 The Empty Look
The empty look is the worst.
What are you even doing with it?
It’s designed to confuse you that way, and that’s why it’s empty.
It leaves you thinking:
What are they thinking?
What did I do wrong?
What’s happening?
What has changed?
What’s their mood?
How will they punish me?
You’ll wonder over and over again, and they know it.
That’s why they do it, and that’s why it can be so scary.
15 Watching You Fall
Narcissists love it when people fail. It doesn’t seem right, does it? The people you love are supposed to be the ones you’d walk on hot coals for.
If they’re hurting, you’re hurting. You support them and make sure you do your best to be there for them…
…They’re not narcissists.
They’re just made in a completely different way, and they’ll crush you every chance they get.
Going through your struggles with them is like watching their favorite movie. You’re their favorite movie if you’re miserable.
It makes them feel better. With such miserable, pathetic lives, they need to see someone as miserable and pathetic as they are to feel good about themselves.
16 Threats
Any kind of threat is unacceptable in a relationship. The only person and place you’re supposed to feel safe with shouldn’t make threats.
Your trust will be shattered, communication will collapse, and this type of conflict will never be resolved because the narcissist doesn’t realize the error of what they said or did.
Stay away from this manipulative behavior before it completely destroys you and your character.
